Trojan Horse Racing

category winner best overall

A racing game where you smash through windows, made in a 3-day in-person game jam with 30 teams.

Role Lead developer & technical designer
Team 5 people
Duration 3 days, in person
Result Won category & best overall

The short versionHow we won

problem

3 days, 30 teams

Xbox Gamecamp gave every team three days to build a game from one of three categories. We picked minesweeper.

approach

Finish early, polish late

I gave the team one goal: finish the game in day one and a half. That left the rest of the jam for polish instead of features.

result

Two wins

We won our category and took best overall out of all 30 teams.

Deep diveWhat made it feel good

Trojan Horse Racing gameplay

Feel over features

Core first. Exploding windows and movement got most of my time.

Scoped down. A small game that felt flawless beat a big one that felt rough.

Polish day. Every player-facing system was tuned in the last day and a half.

Window logic

WindowController.cs programming
// Placeholder example: replace with your real snippet (10-20 lines max)
public void Explode(Vector2 hitPoint)
{
    if (isBroken) return;

    isBroken = true;
    glassCollider.enabled = false; // player can now pass through
    SpawnShards(hitPoint);
}

Why it matters: one short caption on what this solves and why you chose it.

How a window breaks

Player hits window collision event
→
Update state boolean logic
→
Swap colliders open the path
→
Explode shards & feedback

Optional one-line caption explaining the diagram.

My partWhat I did

01
systems

Window Logic

Made windows explode & their colliders change using boolean logic

02
systems

Character Movement

Implemented character movement and physics

03
polish

Polished Systems

Polished all player facing systems to feel smooth

04
design/programming lead

Team lead

Coordinated team efforts design & programming wise

Looking backTakeaways

Scope is a weapon

Cutting the feature list early is what made the polish phase possible.

Set a deadline inside the deadline

The day-and-a-half "game is done" milestone kept the whole team aligned.

Feel beats feature count

Judges remembered how the game felt to play, not how much was in it.
